Don’t Sock it to Me!

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

It’s been quite a while since I have posted here. I thought I would hold up my duty to the First District and post something I just posted on Grizzly Groundswell, regarding political candidates appearing on comedy shows on TV.

This has got to be one of my political pet peeves. Along with politicians forcing me to think their kids are cute, as I have previously ranted on Michigan Redneck II. Ever since Richard Nixon went on “Laugh In” to deliver a deadpan delivery of “Sock it to me” there has been some sort of “coolness” factor added to campaigns. Don’t get me wrong, I love and adore Richard Nixon. Mostly because he was talking about welfare reform back in the day. Back in the late sixties and seventies everyone said he was crazy. Now look at how bloated this welfare “entitlements” have gotten. Sorry, off topic. I have also seen reruns of “Laugh-In.” It was a funny awesome show. So I have nothing against that show, or any of it’s modern copiers.

Perhaps I am a bit old school, but I think candidates, especially presidential, should stay off the comedy shows. This got me thinking about this after John McCain was on “Saturday Night Live” last weekend. All while growing up, it would happen occasionally, but now everytime I turn around, a candidate is trying to “ham it up” on TV. I am not picking on John McCain, I also don’t want to see Barrack Obama or Hillary Clinton on these shows either. At first, I thought, it wouldn’t be too bad if an elected officials, who aren’t running for anything, were on these shows. But then I realized, it is just as silly.

I think candidates should be a bit more dignified. They need to stop “being one of us.” I don’t want “one of us” to be president. Although sometimes, I think “one of us” could do a better job. I understand that they need to get face and airtime. That is what the news shows are. These news shows are for asking serious questions for serious candidates. But then again the line between serious news and entertainment has been blurred in the past few years. Turn on the cable news programs and whatever’s up with Britney, Lindsay or Paris is “BREAKING NEWS.” What on earth? I thought that’s what the Hollywood Channel, or whatever it is called, is for.

Basically, what it boils down to is, just a mere distraction from the issues. If he is funny, he will do the will of the American people, or so the thinking goes.

Thank you for paying attention to my rant.

Check out the post here. And check out all of the Grizzly Groundswell blog, where there is a collaboration of great up and coming conservative bloggers contributing.

I just found a new website at EXPOSEOBAMA.COM and wanted to share this site with you. I have not had an opportunity to read every link and article on the site yet but what I have read has not been discussed in the “Main Street Media”.

Here are two things from this site for your review:

The Shepard’s Crook of Christianity

The Shepard’s Crook of Christianity
Ebola is to humans what Black Liberation Theology is to the church.

Ebola was popularized in the movie “Outbreak” and the book, “Hot Zone.” The virus is what they call a Level 4 pathogen that causes severe hemorrhaging and rapid death through the massive destruction of the liver. But, unfortunately, for those in favor of reducing the number of people on the planet, it also kills animals. The strains of the virus have eerie sounding names – Ebola Zaire, Ebola Sudan, Ebola Reston, Ebola Tai and Marburg.

Amazingly, the Ebola virus under an electron microscope looks a little like a sheep herder’s staff, hence the name, “Shepard’s Crook.” If it happens to show up in your blood, or in that of your pet monkey, there is a nine out of 10 chance of death.

Black Liberation Theology (BLT) is the Shepard’s Crook of Christianity and one of its prophets is Reverend Jeremiah Wright. Without one of his flock running for President of the United States, Wright’s message would probably not have hit front page news. But since Obama, unifying-man-for-all-seasons and candidate-for-Hope-and-Change, is running for the top job it only makes sense that all of his background examined. Ooops. Bad timing for him, Wright, and BLT.

Obama is now in triage, a political casualty of Wright’s BLT-inspired raving rants.

Glenn Beck interviewed former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell on March 20, 2008. Blackwell, a black man, said, “The proponents of liberation theology like Reverend Wright say that God commands us to form government that will supervise our economy to create government subsidized jobs under central government planning, guaranteed healthcare and education by having government control both.”

In other words, liberation theology is socialism wrapped in Christianity. BLT’s contribution to the gift is a racial ribbon and bow.

BLT consists of 12 primary points and a few sub-points. They are available for review on the Trinity United Church of Christ (Chicago) website. According to TUCC, “These Black Ethics must be taught and exemplified in homes, churches, nurseries and schools, wherever Blacks are gathered.”

Most have explanations following them and, unfortunately, the explanation sometimes makes the palatable much less, and the less than palatable much worse. An example is the first one, “Commitment to God.” Normally, I would applaud anyone urging this affirmation. But, when the explanation includes racially charged words like, “Black Christian Activists,” and “soldiers for Black freedom,” I am less inclined.

1. Commitment to God.
2. Commitment to the Black Community.
3. Commitment to the Black Family.
4. Dedication to the Pursuit of Education.
5. Dedication to the Pursuit of Excellence.
6. Adherence to the Black Work Ethic.
7. Commitment to Self-Discipline and Self-Respect.
8. Disavowal of the Pursuit of “Middleclassness.”
9. Pledge to Make the Fruits of All Developing and Acquired Skills Available to the Black Community.
10. Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting Black Institutions.
11. Pledge Allegiance to All Black Leadership Who Espouse and Embrace the Black Value System.
12. Personal Commitment to Embracement of the Black Value System.

A Find and Replace of “Black” for “White” illustrates how abhorrent the principals actually are – Imagine if your local AG, Presbyterian or Baptist church had a value system kicking off with Commitment to God and the White Community. Meanwhile, a Find and Delete of “Black,” with some minor grammatical edits, illustrates how noble they could be. (The exception that you can’t put a positive spin on is the disavowal of “Middleclassness,” which is a tone ringing similar to, “Revolution of the Proletariat.”)

With this as a value system, it is no wonder Wright has said the things he has, while what is to be wondered is how much Obama actually believes.

There is some good news though. Blackwell, in the same interview with Glenn Beck, also observed that Obama’s home church does not express the “dominant view” of the African-American Christian community.

For Obama it isn’t so much that he attended Wright’s church, but that he remained there for so long. He was recruited there, indoctrinated there, got married there, saw his children baptized there, has stayed there for 20 years, and apparently is planning on staying for that much longer. The disconcerting explanations for his sojourn might be that either Obama had BLT before he arrived, or that Wright’s message was the means for infection. In either case not many incubators could culture BLT better than TUCC.

There is another possibility. Senator Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., may be the one in 10 that is immune. If he ends up as President let’s hope so.

Where is Barack Obama’s “Superior” Judgment?

Friday, March 14th, 2008

When Barack Obama is questioned about his lack of “political experience” or “legislative achievements” he is quick to say that he makes and will make the “Correct” decisions that will face him. He implies that he HAS SUPERIOR JUDGEMENT compared to the other Presidential Candidates.

The past couple of days the media has been starting to cover some of the sermon’s of Barack Obama’s pastor and spiritual mentor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, from the Trinity United Church of Christ. Some of Rev. Wright’s views are extreme but Barack Obama says that he does not agree with everything Rev. Wright says ….

Here are some of the concerns being exposed: Obama’s Spiritual Adviser Questioned U.S. Role in Spread of HIV, Sept. 11 Attacks
by FOXNews.com
Friday, March 14, 2008

Wright can be seen questioning America’s role in the spreading of the HIV virus that leads to AIDS. In another speech, made in the days after 9/11, he suggested that American foreign policy invited the terror attacks.

“We bombed Hiroshima. We bombed Nagasaki. And we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon and we never batted an eye,” Wright said.

“We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because of stuff we have done overseas is now brought back into our own backyard. America is chickens coming home to roost.”

The pastor also said: “The government lied about inventing the HIV virus as a means of genocide against people of color. The government lied.”

Additional comments by Rev. Wright:

Prior to his retirement last month, Wright delivered commentary from the pulpit in which he praised Obama, as well as remarks focusing on the racial divide between Obama and Clinton.

“There is a man here who can take this country in a new direction,” Wright said during his Jan. 13 sermon.

During a Christmas sermon, Wright tried to compare Obama’s upbringing to Jesus at the hands of the Romans.

“Barack knows what it means living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people,” Wright said. “Hillary would never know that.

“Hillary ain’t never been called a nigger. Hillary has never had a people defined as a non-person.”

In a Jan. 13 sermon, Wright said:

“Hillary is married to Bill, and Bill has been good to us. No he ain’t! Bill did us, just like he did Monica Lewinsky. He was riding dirty.”

Click Here for a Video Clip from FoxNews WARNING OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE

Late Thursday, the Obama campaign said it has distanced itself from certain comments made by the pastor. But it did not fully repudiate Wright himself — as some critics have called for.

“Senator Obama has said before that he profoundly disagrees with some of the statements and positions of Reverend Wright, who has preached his last sermon as pastor at the church,” Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton said. “Senator Obama deplores divisive statements whether they come from his supporters, the supporters of his opponent, talk radio, or anywhere else.”

My question for Barack Obama- You have been a member of Rev. Wright’s church for 20 years. If these comments are typical ones Rev Wright has espoused for 20 years, how can you say that you do not agree with all of his divisive attitudes.

If I was a member of a church that expressed these views, I would not stay at that church I would go elsewhere!. Why do you overlook those views and remain as a member? If this is indicative of your “Superior Judgment” it is not very wise.

I also have read that Rev. Jeremiah Wright holds a position on your campaign or as a campaign advisor. If this is the case, you need to rethink his place with your campaign. Do you really reject his extreme views or do you uphold his views?

Democrats Place Our Security at Risk…

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

…Duh

But I will let David, Rush’s bro, Limbaugh explain that better.

Democrats downplay the scope of terrorist threat and constantly obstruct our efforts to pursue this “overblown” enemy.
immunity provisions from the bill for later treatment. But everyone knows — except voters the Democrats are trying to dupe — that if you carve out that portion of the bill, Democrats will try to prevent it from ever coming to the floor.

Sadly, I think duping voters is the only thing Dums, oopsie Dems, are successful at.

Democrats duplicitously claim the GOP just wants to protect another group of evil corporations. But can they point to one real victim who the telecoms have abused while assisting the government in saving American lives? Can they point to a real motive the telecoms would have in harming such nonexistent victims?
But Democrats say we should never have attacked and that al-Qaida wouldn’t be there if we hadn’t. We should have finished the job in Afghanistan, they say, because that’s where al-Qaida trained to attack us on 9/11.

But has anyone ever challenged the Democrats on the absurdity of this position? If we were justified in attacking al-Qaida in Afghanistan because they trained there to attack us, then why aren’t we justified in fighting them in Iraq since they are attacking us there?

Besides, we have the right and duty to attack them wherever they are. They are the enemy.

Democrats pretend that if we will just withdraw from Iraq, al-Qaida will forgive us and leave us alone. (Kathy’s interruption; Ain’t that sweet. Let’s hold hands and sing koombya[sp?]) They will never leave us alone as long as they are capable of fighting us, no matter when we leave. But if we do leave before completing the job, al-Qaida will be emboldened and become an even fiercer enemy, which will increase Middle East instability and invite further attacks against our interests abroad and at home.

I don’t care how charismatic, nice, eloquent or brilliant Obama is. If he were to pursue precipitous withdrawal and the other terrorist-friendly policies he and Democrats support, our national security will be exponentially imperiled. It’s time for Republicans to quit being on the defensive on these issues and take this fight to the public. [more here]

Emphasis mine

I just don’t trust Barack on his “Sunshine and lollipops,” to the point I think I trust Hillary more. Just look at his racist “minister.” According to FOX News, this morning, “Reverend” Wright is planning on resigning because of his pro-Obama speeches he made after Obama announced his candidacy, oh, and along with his anti-American, racist, anti-Semite statements.

Who Should be McCain’s VP?

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

Over at The American Spectator is an article speculating on who could be John McCain’s VP.

The Nation’s Pulse
McCain-Somebody ‘08
By John Tabin
Published 3/5/2008 2:46:25 AM

With last night’s victories, John McCain crossed the 1191-delegate line, winning the nomination. Now he has the luxury of standing back, letting Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama beat each other up and raising money for the Fall race.

And what about that running mate? The question for McCain is what function his pick should serve. McCain certainly doesn’t need to ballast his ticket with age and gravitas, as George W. Bush did when he selected Dick Cheney. McCain will be 72 when the next president takes the oath of office, and might want to go with a relatively young running mate who can carry the torch into the 2016 election. That would rule out Fred Thompson, who will be 66 on inauguration day.

As much as I hate to say this, It is true about Fred’s age. Unfortunately, this is his only hindrance. He was a thee true conservative over all of those who had run in the ‘08 POTUS race.

Since McCain will be running against a Democratic candidate who is either black or female, some have suggested he practice a bit of tokenism in his selection. Colin Powell is too old (70) and too unpopular with conservatives. Condoleezza Rice seems uninterested in electoral politics, and in any case would muddy McCain’s foreign policy message, which has emphasized his track record of criticizing the Bush administration from the right on the management of the Iraq occupation. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison is 64, which may be too old.

Michael Steele, former lieutenant governor of Maryland, would be high on the shortlist if he’d won his 2004 Senate race, but he didn’t. Other names in this category that get tossed around include congresswoman Marsha Blackburn, former congressman J.C. Watts, and Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin.

I am willing to admit there is some case to this. But at the same point I would like to think the Republican Party should be above “identity” politics. Some of the people mentioned above would be great, such as Condi Rice, Michael Steele or J.C. Watts. The others, I agree on the age thing or I don’t know too much about them. But I do believe that if they are the running mate, they should be chosen based solely on merit.

The article goes on to mention geography balance.

Less abrasive southern Governors Sonny Perdue of Georgia, Haley Barbour of Mississippi, and especially Mark Sanford of South Carolina might be able to satisfy southerners and social conservatives without angering other factions of the party.

Now, I really like Haley Barbour.

McCain might follow this logic and select his friend Rudy Giuliani. It would dismay social conservatives, who are already slightly skittish about McCain, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t do it if he decides he wants to. [Read all the possible choices here]

Mitt Romney is left out of the “equation.” If it can’t be Fred, I would like it to be Romney. I think he needs to have a running mate who would be good for the economy. Thoughts?

REAL Mind-Numbed Robots!

Friday, March 7th, 2008

For the past several weeks I have been troubled when listening to countless people talk about why they SUPPORT Barack Obama. I think I have finally but my finger on this unsettling feeling!

How many years have (WE) Conservatives had to put up with the “Left Wing Liberal Loonies” label us as “Mind Numbed Robots” because we agreed with Rush Limbaugh (and now the many other Conservative Talk Show Hosts on the Radio and Cable News Programs) They tried to “demonize” us because we would speak positively about things Rush would say.

If we were asked why we supported these statements … we could rattle off many specific examples or reasons why!

We would cite long-held beliefs and opinions to back up our Conservative Views.

This past week while listening to the Fox News coverage of the Super Tuesday II primaries (in Ohio, Texas, Rhode Island and Vermont) Alisyn Camerota was talking with students at the University of Ohio. She asked numerous students why they were excited and supporting Barack Obama, There answers were frightening!

Ahhh …. Uhmmmm …. Ohhhhhh because he is talking about Change!

When asked to list one accomplishment as a US Senator … Ohhhh …. Ahhhhh …. Uhmmmmm he will get people to work together to make changes in Washington …..

GIVE ME A BREAK …..

Not one person could give a specific accomplishment of Barack Obama from his service in the US Senate.

If he could accomplish all of this changes …..

Where Was He?

and

Why Didn’t He?

DO ANYTHING since he because a US Senator from Illinois?

Could it be that he got busy running for the Presidency and not serving his constituents or the county?

These Barack Obama supporters don’t have the facts to back up their position.

Could They Be the MIND NUMB ROBOTS … that Conservatives were accused to BE?

Don’t get me WRONG … I am not calling Obama Supporters or Dems names … but I hope they would look at the facts and realize Barack Obama does not have the experience or the ability to secure accomplishments to LEAD this country as President. Talk is Cheap!

Barack Slapping

Friday, March 7th, 2008

Warning: Some things may be offensive to my fellow First Districters, apologies in advance.

It has been a rather busy blogging day for me today. Some of you may know that I blog on Michigan Redneck II. I want to keep my loyalties to my personal blog, while keeping my loyalties to the First District, by contributing to First GOP Blogs.

I have been following the ‘08 election since the ‘07 Michigan GOP Convention, after seeing Mitt Romney speak there. I started supporting Mitt Romney, then went to supporting and blog Mike Huckabee, then Fred Thompson, then back to Romney. Once Romney dropped out of the race, I did not support anyone but continued to follow the POTUS race. I am staying neutral on John McCain. As odd as it sounds, I am still supporting the party on state and national level, just staying neutral on McCain.

So I figured that I could blog about issues that concern me and work on blasting on the Democrat candidates. Most of what I have found to blast on, in conservative news sources has been about Barack Obama. Not much on Hillary Clinton. What I have found about Barack has been rather scary. Him, those he associates with and those his associates associate with are not the sunshine and lollipops that he portrays with his happy words of “hope,” “change” and “Yes we can.” His “minister” Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., pastor of Obama’s Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago is a racist and Isreal hater. Let’s not get into “Reverend” Wright’s revering of “Loony Far-off-can’t” AKA Louis Farahkan(sp?). At least not yet.
I am a firm believer in “guilt by association.” These associations are scary. These are people I do not want to see either of them come anywheres near the White House. Sometimes I think Barack’s talk of sunshine and lollipops could be a manipulation. He may not be as “innocent” and “wet behind the ears” as he seems and that is worse than outright attacking.

That being said, we know what Hillary is about. Or do we? Could she actually be worse than what we see? As I said above, I was a Mike Huckabee supporter. Even though there were things I did not like about him towards the end, there were still things I liked about him. When he wasn’t even a blip on the radar he said to not underestimate Hillary Clinton. Where would he get such a thought?
He had been the former Governor of Arkansas. Wasn’t Hillary’s husband, oh what’s his name, the Governor of Arkansas also? Mike Huckabee started his Arkansas political career as the Lieutenant Governor to Jim Guy Tucker. Jim Guy Tucker was the Lieutenant Governor to Bill Clinton before Bill was elected to president. Mike Huckabee watched Bill Clinton climb his way to the top, even before he got into politics. He knows about the “Clinton political machine.” He claimed that Clinton’s had a hand in Arkansas Democrat politics even after leaving the state. When I had blogged for his campaign I recall finding an article where he said that he “knew a secret about Hillary.” Probably more than one, but I digress.

So all in all, this is why I do not want to see either one of them become president. Unfortunately, one of them will be the Dum, I mean Dem nominee. I just don’t think Hillary should be left off the hook. There are some out there that may think that if Barack is knocked around a bit Hillary will be the nominee and she will be easier to beat. I am not so sure. Since it is not known who will be the Dum (oops did it again) nominee and they are both scary the negativity on both should start coming out now. That way, regardless of who their nom is, the negative stuff will be remembered about whomever once the general election rolls around.

Glenn Beck/Second Hour

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

Glenn Beck is back with the Richmond mayor. Glenn is saying that he hopes Barack Obama doesn’t use the race card. He doesn’t want to see this race about race. He gets upset when people call him a racist about the border issue. He said he wants to see the Southern AND Northern borders secure, so he must hate “those white Canadians.” They are talking about Michelle Obama and some of her dumb comments, regarding “paying off college loans.” Glenn says she should be proud of her education and not complain.
Split screen shows John McCain talking.

Glenn Beck/Second Hour

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

Glenn Beck just anounced that Mike Huckabee is officially out. The panel is talking about reasons that Mike Huckabee may have stayed in. Could be he wanted at least one more delegate than Mitt Romney. One lady on the panel said it could be that he was getting name recognition for book sales. Glenn said it could be that he genuinely wanted to be president. One gentleman said maybe it was that Mike Huckabee wants to get a good speaking slot at the RNC convention. All those on the panel said they thought he was genuine. He had ideas that may not have been popular with Republicans, but said what he thought. I met Mike Huckabee twice. And I have to say I agree with the genuine thing. I ended up not agreeing with him. But he was genuine. Glenn was talking about the “inline” thing in the Republican Party. And said that Mitt Romney bowing out when he did, put him in the right place in the “line.”
The panel is talking. On the split screen, it looks like Mike Huckabee is speaking.
The panel is talking about what John McCain can do to win over conservatives. One panelist just said it will have to be about security. One lady says it will be about judges.
Now they are talking about possible running mates. South Governor Sanford, is one name that was mentioned.
Rhode Island has called for McCain and Clinton.
Independents in Texas voting on Republicans; McCain 44% 28 17
Kinky Friedman is on. Glenn is asking about Obama. Mr. Friedman is talking about rednecks in Texas. They didn’t have much of a choice for Democrats. They are talking about the two party system and frustrations. Oh no he didn’t. Mr. Friedman is talking about “who would Jesus deport?”…”Half of them in Texas are named Jesus.” He said it, not me. I used to live in Texas. When Kinky was running for governor as an independent. I was kinda following him. I was almost wishing I still lived there, just to vote for him. Ya can say what ya want about the old fool, but ya gotta agree, he is one interesting character. They are talking about Obama supporters and the fainting and screaming. Scares Glenn. Glenn has not talked to one supporter of Barack who can tell one substantial reason why they support Barack.

Glenn Beck/Second Hour

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

Glenn made an oopsie. What is up with this Latinos vote and black vote? 89% blacks are going for Barack. 11% for Hillary. That does not sound like mere stats. Sounds more like “identity politics.” For the Republicans 49% Latinos are going for Huckabee. 41% are going for John McCain.
The panel is talking about the Rezko deals. Glenn is talking with the mayor of Richmond, VA, Douglas Wilder. Mr. Wilder is a Dem, but Glenn says he likes him. They are talking about Louis Farrakhan’s support of Barack. Both men are talking about “hit peice” politics.
On the TV screen it says that Mike Huckabee will withdrawl tonight.
