Great Bands Coming to the UP and Northern Michigan
March 3rd, 2008 by Kathy WellsMy first post in the Mackinac Blog. Woo-hoo! As a longtime blogger, I have realized what a godsend Google Alerts can be. One of my Google Alerts is “Sault Saint Marie.” I found this awesome article about some great bands that are coming to the Upper Peninsula and Northern Michigan. As a gen-xer, this really peaked my interest; “On March 15, rocker Bret Michaels, along with Firehouse, will heat up Kewadin Casino’s DreamMakers Theater in Sault Ste. Marie. Tickets are $38.50. …” Well as someone who had a huge crush on Bret Michaels, I was really excited. I had to click on to read the story. In case you don’t know who Bret Michaels is, he was the lead singer of Poison. They were an awesome band from the late eighties and early nineties. There is an article in MLive.com that lists many of the musical artists that were popular with baby boomers and gen-xers who will be appearing at Michigan casinos within the next few weeks.
Some of these artists, but not limited to are, original lead guitarist Ace Frehley, of KISS, Grand Funk Railroad, The Romantics, Gladys Night and others appearing at Soaring Eagle of Mt. Pleasant. This is just awesome. KISS appeals to both baby boomers and gen-xers. What gen-x kid doesn’t remember wearing those plastic KISS Halloween costumes? Grand Funk is also another group that appeals to multiple generations. I grew up in Flint and always thought it was awesome that Grand Funk Railroad was from Flint.
But the great music visiting Northern Michigan doesn’t end there. At Odawa casino B.B. King, Eric Clapton, John Lee Hooker, Tina Turner and many others will be appearing. Again, another great line-up. As someone who is a huge fan of the old, old school blues of the fifties and sixties B.B. King and John Lee Hooker would be awesome to see in person. If you have never heard this music, ya gotta hear it. Eric Clapton and Tina Turner are other artists that transcend generations.
Brett Michaels will be playing at the Kewadin in the Sault, along with Firehouse. Let’s not forget also will be the Wilkinsons and Bryan White, country artists, will be performing at Kewadin.
The Charlie Daniels Band, .38 Special and Shooter Jennings will be performing at the Island Casino.
